List of Electors Running for the Merger Study Commission

THIS IS NOT A PAID POSITION - THESE ELECTORS VOLUNTEER THIS TIME

Olmsted Falls Olmsted Township
William C. Engelmann - I’ve been a resident of the Township for 23 years and of the Falls for 30+ years. Currently I serve as Chairman of the Joint Economic Development District. In the past I’ve served on the OF Sewer Equalization Board, and as an interim Falls Councilman. I’m past president of the Olmsted Community Jaycees and a member of both the Falls and Township Bicentennial Commission.
James E. Bolander -I have lived in the Olmsted Community for 42 years, 7 in the city and 35 in the township. My professional career was spent in U.S. Government business, 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Commissioned Procurement Officer and 29 years as a Contract Specialist/Contracting Officer with NASA. I have served the township by volunteering as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals, being chairman for many years. I have been a member of the Olmsted Falls Kiwanis Club for 35 years and the Olmsted Community Church for 42 years. I feel that we need to address the pros and cons of a merger by gathering input from all concerned residents of both segment of the community in order to make intelligent decisions relative to a merger.
Ralph K. Fairchild -I have lived in Olmsted Falls for over 10 years after growing up and living in nearby communities and have for these past ten years wondered why there are two Olmsted communities. During my time in Olmsted Falls, I’ve been active in youth sports and have wondered why with so many young families and children in the area there is no recreation center or formal recreation department in either community. I have wondered whether our services would improve if there was one community rather than two.
I believe that the two communities should merge only if true benefits exist for both. We need to find out if one government would be better. The time to find out is now. I believe both communities need to have this study performed to gather the information needed to decide what form of government best suits the growing Olmsted area.

I would like to use the knowledge and financial skills I have acquired as a citizen and as a CPA for over 25 years to help us all find out whether it really makes sense to combine our communities, and if so, how we should best plan for the growth and improvement of our community.

Richard Dodig - I was a 14 year resident of Olmsted Falls from 1981 thru 1994. I currently resides in Olmsted Township with his family since1994. Richard and his family are long time members of St. Mary of the Falls Church and have supported the church through donations and volunteer work. Richard was an umpire for 3 years with Olmsted Community Summer League. Richard and his wife are members of the OFHS Music Association. Richard ran for Township Clerk in 2003. I am a professional accountant and tax preparer for the past 30 years. I earned a BA in Accounting and Finance from Baldwin Wallace College in 1978. As a professional, I have worked as senior cost accountant, cost and market analyst and accounting manager for various companies. My work as a volunteer in this community shows that I am dedication to the residents of this community.
John R. Hawkins - I graduated from OFHS in 1979 and have lived in OF for the majority of his adult life. My wife Jeanne and I have been married for 26 years and they have 5 children who are currently in or have graduated from OFHS. I have devoted much of my time over the past 10 years to the conception, development and operation of the Olmsted Community Center. The Center serves the members of both communities equally. In fact community members often comment to me and wonder why the two communities, that share so much, have not explored the option of merging in order to discover if there would be any substantial benefits and efficiencies.
Charles T. Fink - I’ve lived in the Township for 10 years and spent time as a Township Trustee where I became educated in Township operations and township government shortcomings. I’ve been a Trustee of NOCOP and the Olmsted Baseball Commission. Also I’ve also served in past as Auxiliary Police (in Brook Park), Homeowners Association of Columbia Park, member of VFW Post 6676 and member of St. Mary’s Church. For a community as large as Olmsted Township this form of government may not serve residents well. Efficiency of overall government functions could be very much enhanced.
Mary Frances Migliorino - I have served 16-years/two administrations as the Governor’s Regional Representative in the Cleveland Governor’s Regional Office paralleled with serving the Ohio Department of Development Agency and the Agency’s Director. I also served as Interim Governor’s Regional Representative for Akron, Summit, Portage, and Medina counties, for a six-month period. Terri L. Mrosko - I have a unique perspective from residing in both communities for nearly 25 years—living first in the Township and then moving to Olmsted Falls in 1997. My civic involvement includes membership on Olmsted Falls Parks & Recreation and the city’s 2008 master plan study committee. I served as president of the Olmsted Chamber of Commerce and am currently an active board member. As a professional writer, I have covered the communities and its residents for the Plain Dealer, News Sun, West Life Newspaper and Cleveland Magazine’s special publication featuring the Falls and Township. I hold a degree in business administration/communications from Baldwin-Wallace College.

We function in so many ways with a single mind set, including our joint use of the school system, the Chamber of Commerce and various civic and religious organizations. It is time to see if a joint form of government can mutually benefit our communities, especially in the areas of added services and reduced taxes. I vow to work diligently with fellow commissioners to oversee a cost-effective and timely study. With the study, we will able to assess the value of such a merger.

Jeanene M. Kress - I am a 45 year resident of Olmsted Township and take pride in my community. I was elected to 3 terms (4 years each) serving on the board of the Olmsted Falls Schools from 1978-90. I was president for 2 years.

We are a young family that has decided move here for what the Olmsted area has to offer. This is the community we have chosen to raise our children for the duration. I spent eight years in the classroom before moving into the corporate arena as a computer forensic investigator. I am currently serving as the President for Berea Business and Professional Women and am a member of various other professional organizations. As an educator and investigator I see this commission as a venue to really take a look at the "big picture", this is a STUDY and we will never know what is BEST for either community if we don't evaluate the options.

Beverly B. Smith - I’ve lived in Olmsted Falls for 48 years and my husband taught at Middle School for 34 years. In the past I’ve been a Girl Scout Leader, Councilman for 35 years and currently Special Projects Manager for the City working to see the construction of the railroad underpass on south Columbia Road. I am a founding member of the Community Emergency Response Team, and a member of the Olmsted Falls Garden Club and Olmsted Historical Society. As ancient history, I worked on the Olmsted Falls/West View Merger issue and helped write the original Olmsted Falls City Charter as well as serving as a Cemetery Trustee for 10 years. I welcome the opportunity to show the advantages and/or disadvantages of combining forces.

Brian T. McElroy - After graduating from Case Western Reserve Law School in 2001 my wife and I choose to move to Olmsted Township. We liked the area so much we decided to raise a family here and bought a house. I have been active in the community ever since and have been on the Olmsted Board of zoning Appeals since December of 2005.

I support the merger study because nothing is lost by gaining knowledge. The idea of a merger has been kicked around since the 1960's. Let's finally research these matters and put the issue to rest once and for all.

I have served on the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals for 9 years, acting as chairman for the past 5 years. Professionally, I manage a business unit for PolyOne. I believe that my business background will help the study develop a financial picture of what a combined community could look like. The study should give residents a clear understanding of the benefits and compromises that a merger would represent

I believe that the feasibility study of a merger will answer a number of the questions that many of us have, as to the benefits , or lack there of, of a combined city and township.
